The objective was to create a digital platform that would simplify the rental process for both landlords and tenants. We wanted to provide landlords with an easy way to list their properties while offering tenants a convenient system to browse available units, schedule viewings, submit paperwork, and manage their rental accounts. Additionally, the platform needed to streamline payment processes, including splitting payments between landlords and the management company.
Challenges
The primary challenge was building an integrated marketplace that served multiple user groups—landlords, tenants, and the management company—each with unique needs. We needed to ensure that the platform was easy to use, secure for transactions, and capable of handling various services, such as maintenance requests and utility payments.
Process
Our process began with analyzing the rental journey from the perspective of both landlords and tenants. We designed a platform that includes a property catalog for tenants to easily view available apartments, schedule viewings, and submit rental applications. For landlords, the system provided a user-friendly way to list properties, manage inquiries, and track lease agreements.
Once a lease was signed, tenants gained access to a personal account where they could pay rent and utilities via bank card or Apple Pay. We integrated a payment system that automatically splits payments, sending the appropriate amounts to landlords and the management company minus any commission fees.
The platform also included features for ordering maintenance services, such as calling an electrician or plumber, and a dashboard for tenants to view all their bills and payments related to the apartment and utilities.
